Livestock Market Data Methodology

How information is collected, verified, confidence-graded and corrected.

Method before conclusion

Rules that stop unverified information becoming “fact”

Our reports use a clear source hierarchy, an expiry date for each input, and a separation between a field price, a commercial quotation and an analytical estimate. The methodology does not make data infallible; it makes its limitations reviewable.

01

Source hierarchy

Primary

direct field offers or observations with location, date and specification.

Secondary

competent authorities, veterinary services, ports and verified transport operators.

Tertiary

international datasets such as FAOSTAT, WAHIS and UN Comtrade.

Media reports are treated as signals and are not sufficient alone for a commercial decision.

02

Minimum standard for publishing prices

Collection date, time and location.

Species, breed, sex, weight or age and condition.

Price basis

supplier site, port, FOB, CIF or delivered.

Two independent field sources where possible, or one documented source marked low confidence.

Short validity period; one transaction is never presented as a market average.

03

Confidence grades

High

multiple consistent sources plus documents or official confirmation.

Medium

two sources with limited variance, or reliable official data with a time lag.

Low

one source or incomplete scope; published only with a clear warning.

Not publishable

anonymous, contradictory, undated or specification-free information.

04

Corrections and updates

Every material update is dated and the change is described.

A substantive error is corrected openly rather than silently erased.

Expired prices are withdrawn and are not reused in new quotations.

The formal quotation and signed contract govern a transaction—not a public report.

Public data sources

These sources support analysis but do not replace field verification or transaction-specific competent-authority requirements.

Do you have a documented market update?

Suppliers and partners can submit availability, price, specification and validity information for review under this methodology.
