How to Import Live Livestock into United Arab Emirates: Permits, Health Checks and Delivery
Before buying sheep, goats, cattle or camels for delivery to United Arab Emirates, check the current import permission and veterinary conditions. This guide explains the main steps, the questions to ask and how Regional Livestock Bridge sells and delivers livestock directly.
Start with these four checks
- Write the animal species, number, age, weight and purpose, such as slaughter or breeding.
- Identify the licensed importer, arrival port and final delivery city.
- Ask the competent authority whether the current origin, species and entry point are accepted.
- Secure the written import permit and shipment-specific health conditions before expensive purchases or bookings.
Who issues the permit?
The UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment operates an import-permit service for live animals and birds, followed by inspection and release at the entry point. Eligibility, permitted origins and veterinary conditions vary by species and shipment. Confirm the licensed importer, origin approval and authorized entry point before dispatch.
Documents and checks before loading
- Any required prior import permit issued to the eligible importer.
- Official government veterinary health certificate from the exporting country, plus tests, vaccinations and quarantine evidence required by the permit.
- Certificate of origin, commercial invoice and animal inventory or identification details when required.
- Transport, loading, insurance where selected, arrival and customs documents appropriate to the route.
Which origin countries are possible?
RLB can source suitable animals through its farms and breeder network in Yemen, Somalia and Ethiopia. Their availability does not mean every animal or origin is currently authorized for import into United Arab Emirates. Veterinary approvals and disease-related controls can change quickly.
Transport, delivery and the full price
Ask for a clear cost breakdown: livestock at the source, truck collection to holding facilities or port, health testing and quarantine, permits and certificates, sea or land freight, optional insurance, arrival handling, customs and final road delivery. Confirm the delivery point and who carries transport and loss risks in the written agreement.
Buying directly from Regional Livestock Bridge
RLB is the livestock seller, not a commission broker. We sell animals we own or purchase from our farm and breeder network; customers contract with RLB, not the farm. We quote and invoice the agreed supply. Under our Transparent Program, the customer pays RLB for each approved stage as it becomes due—animals at source, preparation and inland transport, veterinary work, shipping and delivery—under a clear written supply agreement.
Mistakes that delay shipments
- Paying for animals before checking the origin approval and permit.
- Confusing a farm-gate or export-port price with a delivered price.
- Booking quarantine or freight before the applicable documents are ready.
- Assuming last month’s import rules still apply to a new consignment.
Frequently asked questions
Can I import livestock from Yemen, Somalia or Ethiopia?
This depends on current permission for the origin, species and consignment. Check the importing authority and the actual permit before purchase.
Is a quotation enough to ship?
No. The importer, permit, veterinary documents and route approvals must also be ready.
Can I pay only for the animals first?
Yes, if the staged-payment supply agreement specifies that step. Subsequent approved services and expenses are payable to RLB when their stages begin.
